#thebabyquestion (Online)
Presented by Varjack Lowry
In 1974 the contraceptive pill was made available to single women for the first time on the NHS. What has changed since then in the way we discuss not when or how but whether a woman has or wants to have children?
A performance that centres the narratives of women who are child-free/childless, by choice or circumstance, amidst societal pressures and pop culture.
#thebabyquestion is a devised research based performance by three female performers, investigating the power and inevitability of “the baby question“ on women, through personal stories, choreography, pop culture references, biological information and interview material. It seeks to amplify the narratives of childless/childfree women and the nuances that come within them.
