Spirited Second Line Revelry, Galloping Gypsy Czárdas, Soulful Jazz Funeral Marches, Pumping Brass Driven Funk!

The Brass Funkeys are an 8-piece London-based Brass Band who draw on the traditions of New Orleans. Formed in 2011, they have played at major festivals including Glastonbury, Wilderness and the North Sea Jazz Festival as well as London venues including The O2 Brooklyn Bowl, Koko Camden, and Ronnie Scott’s. Whether performing a powerful amplified stage show or as a totally mobile marching band, the Brass Funkeys bring together some of the most talented musicians in London in an eclectic live show bursting at the seams with ideas and infectious energy.

After the cancellation of dozens of live dates, The Brass Funkeys have not taken the past 2 years lying down, instead embarking on an ambitious project to release four EPs of new material over the course of the year. “Live at Cambridge Junction” features their high-energy stage show while “Crunch” showcases original material continuing their exploration of a new genre: #ThrashBrass.  “Ruin” explores pumping, heavy, brass-led covers from girlband to heavy metal, marking the Brass Funkeys out as a trailblazer in the new generation of UK Brass Bands, while still holding true to the New Orleans sound.

This show will feature brand new music from the final EP, which will be released in the Autumn.

Plus support from Kontroversi

Kontroversi is a Cambridge based electrofunk duo. They are Mr Margaret Scratcher (Mark Sutton) on keyboards, synthesizers and drum machines, and GSD (Leonardo Robarts) on lead vocals, guitar and synths. After knowing each other many years through the music scene, in 2016 they decided to collaborate to produce their own unique sound which they have dubbed ‘#Cadillac Funk’.

Imagine Prince, Parliament, New Order and Jamiroquai taking a road trip across the galaxy in a ’59 Cadillac and you’re halfway there…

Their live show embraces 80’s funk and lies somewhere between a band and a DJ.

Between them, they build a foundation of heavy beats from classic drum machines, chunky analog basslines, and then the combination of Margaret Scratcher’s sweeping keytar solos and analog wizardry, and GSD's soulful melodies and guitar chops ties the whole package together to define the Kontroversi sound.
