An evening with Shaun Ryder
From the Happy Mondays to Black Grape to Gorillaz...without Shaun Ryder there would be no 'Madchester' and the UK rave scene of the 80/90's would definitely not have been the best in the world!
In 1980 he formed Happy Mondays alongside his brother Paul Ryder (bass) and their friends Mark Day (guitar), Paul Davis (keyboard) and Gary Whelan (drums), with Mark "Bez" Berry later joining the band as a percussionist.
The group - who helped pioneer the Madchester sound - released a slew of hits including Step On, Kinky Afro and 24 Hour Party People. In 1995 Shaun founded the group Black Grape, whose first album, It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah, shot to the top of the British chart. In August 2017, the group released Pop Voodoo, their first full album since 1997. Shaun also enjoyed monumental chart success when he lent his vocals to Gorillaz hit Dare in 2005.
Shaun will tell us all about the pills, thrills and bellyaches of his life as THE most rock n roll superstar to come out the UK since Keith Richards.
