New Routes is back with an evening of acoustic, folk and roots artists.

Set out cabaret style with candles on tables, it’s a comfortable and intimate space to listen to the best emerging and established artists from the area.

Mark Shepherd
Mark Shepherd is a singer-songwriter from Cambridge with a strong, distinctive vocal and a dark brand of folky, thought provoking acoustic rock/Americana that sometimes explores the troubling aspects of life with a rough warmth sure to stay with you long after you finish listening. Imagine Tom Petty meets Paul Weller and you’ll have a rough idea of the vibe, whether it be in the full band sound of his records or the stripped back acoustic sound of his solo shows.

Mark has featured on BBC Introducing and a host of radio stations and blogs. Performances all over the UK and USA have included The Cambridge Folk Festival, Cambridge Rock Festival, Camp Bestival, London: 02 Academy Islington, New York: Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End, Pianos, Arlene's Grocery and many more.

Mark's music is on all digital platforms - just search Mark Shepherd.   New music will be out in 2022 on the Animal Farm label.

Chris Fox
Born and raised in Cambridgeshire, Chris Fox cut his teeth playing for pints in local drinking establishments along the river Great Ouse in 2014. Fast forward to an award-winning singer songwriter performing at Folk Festivals, Clubs and Theatres on the UK Folk Scene. A genre defying Folk troubadour Chris writes songs of everyday life that are relatable and make audiences feel connected, informed and uplifted. Making rapid progress through the UK folk and roots scene with his songwriting, utilising a variety of styles across the roots lexicon of traditional & contemporary folk, Americana, Country and Blues audiences are enthralled by his rich vocals, complex guitar playing, and loop pedal alchemy finding Chris to be humorous &  thought provoking in equal measures. His naturally laid back, unostentatious style creates the perfect ambience for an intimate and inclusive live experience drawing listeners in with tales of both the everyday and the unexpected.

"Chris Fox was outstanding, two sets of seat riveting vocals and loop wizardry. Chris is a true artist in every sense of the word from his emotive song writing to effortless delivery, with dramatic light and shade in his guitar playing, rich depth to his vocals, he really is worthy of headline act status at any club in the county.”
Birch & Stock Folk Club 2021

"Chris Fox is the best singer songwriter I have heard in a long time”
Steve Jackson BBC Cambs

"Tip for 2020. Poised to break through in 2020 ....Chris Fox could well conjure something special in the future"
RnR magazine Jan/Feb2020

Lizzie Taylor, guitar and vocals, Phil Meyler, vocals, Steve Reynolds, double bass and accordion, and Nick Barraclough, guitar and vocals. Together they present a programme of American roots music, Appalachian folk and more recent West coast country songs.
