Fountain (:) Live
Presented by Yewande 103
Continuing Alexandrina Hemsley/ Yewande 103’s body of work around holding water - within dance, poetry and embodied advocacy - this work in progress, Fountain (:) Live blends together film, live dance and digital watery environments to explore tidal cycles of repair, loss, joy and intimacy.
This performance score holds cycles of a 30minute film titled Fountain, followed by live dance improvisation. Dance artists Alexandrina Hemsley, Rickay Hewitt-Martin, Rudzani Moleya and Shahada Nantaba cycle through plural, interconnected, expansive, non-linear states; their dancing bodies amongst the symbolism and psycho-geography of water as inevitably linked to Black histories, embodiments, repair and mental health.
Fountain (:) Live calls in the significance of oceanic passages and the impacts of colonial carving up of water and selves within Black existences. The different mediums intertwine to tenderly sense and consider our inescapable tides of life and death; welcoming how our watery bodies exist simultaneously as oceans, tombs and sanctuaries.
The work is durational and performed in 1hr loops.
This is a relaxed performance and audiences can enter and leave the space at any time.
This live performance score includes a preview of Fountain ahead of a national cinema tour this September- October.
